Rust Protocol: 128 DeepMind 12 Presets fills one bank of your synth with 128 programs for Behringer DeepMind 12, DeepMind 12D and DeepMind 12XD (firmware 1.1 or newer). Grinding basses, marching sequences, metallic stabs and hard percussion for industrial, EBM and dark electro.

The sound

Rust Protocol sounds like a factory that never stops. Grinding basses with a hard edge, sequences that march in lockstep with your drum machine, metallic stabs and percussive hits, cold leads and dark pads for the breaks, plus noise and FX for the transitions. Everything is tuned for the dance floor of an industrial club, not the showroom.

How it plays

Start a sequence, hold one note and play the filter with the mod wheel while the pattern runs. Hit the stabs and percussion on the grid like a drum machine. Velocity makes the basses bark harder when you dig in, and aftertouch brings in extra grit on many of the leads.

What is inside

128 programs in one bank: 21 bass, 17 sequence, 15 fx, 13 arp, 13 lead, 11 stab, 11 pad, 9 poly, 8 perc, 6 drone, 4 keys. Every program has its own name and a playing note.

A few of the programs

• Horizon Furnace (bass): A unison saw, pulse and square stack through a warm 4 pole filter. An instant attack and a tight release. Mod wheel opens the filter and slows the attack; aftertouch adds vibrato. Play it low and let the root carry the track.
• Open Motor (sequence): A detuned unison three oscillator stack through a warm resonant 2 pole filter. A quick decay with no sustain, with glide. The 5 step control sequencer moves the sound in time. Mod wheel opens the filter and speeds up the movement; aftertouch opens the filter.
• Black Rupture (fx): A detuned square wave through a dark resonant 4 pole filter opening slowly on each note. A slow bloom, with glide. It sits in four tap delay. Aftertouch opens the filter. Hold a note for the full sweep.
• Rusted Stairs (arp): A detuned unison saw over square through an open 4 pole filter snapping shut on every note. Glide keeps it moving. Sixteenth note arp, up, over 2 octaves. Aftertouch adds resonance; mod wheel brings in filter movement. Hold a chord and let it run.

Compatibility

For Behringer DeepMind 12, DeepMind 12D and DeepMind 12XD (firmware 1.1 or newer). The DeepMind 6 is not supported: it uses a different SysEx format and has 6 voices, so these files do not load on it. Load the bank with the official DeepMind editor app, SynthTribe or any SysEx librarian on macOS or Windows.
