A simple, step-by-step guide to load your drum presets, even if you're a complete beginner
Follow these simple steps to load drum presets into Superior Drummer 3:
Start by launching Superior Drummer 3. You can open it either as a plugin in your music software (like Logic, Pro Tools, or FL Studio) or as a standalone application from your computer.
Look at the top of the Superior Drummer 3 window. You'll see a menu bar with several options. Click on "File" - it's usually the first option on the left.
After clicking "File," a dropdown menu will appear. Find and click on the "Open" option in this menu.
A file browser window will open. Navigate to the folder where you've saved your SD3P preset file. These are special files made for Superior Drummer 3 that contain drum kit settings.
When you find your SD3P file, click on it once to select it, then click the "Open" button. The preset will now load into Superior Drummer 3, and you're ready to start making music!
Can't find your SD3P files? They might be in the "Downloads" folder if you just downloaded them, or check the location where you saved them. If you're still having trouble, try searching for ".sd3p" in your computer's search function.
After loading a preset, save it for easy access in future sessions:
After you've loaded the SD3P file, look at the top right corner of Superior Drummer 3. Find the menu labeled "Drums and Mixer Presets" (it might have a gear or dropdown icon). Click on it and select "Save As..." from the options.
A window will appear asking you to name your preset. Choose a name that will help you remember what this preset sounds like (for example, "Rock Kit - Bright" or "Jazz Brushes"). Click "Save" when you're done.
Go back to the "Drums and Mixer Presets" menu and click on "Rescan User Presets". This tells Superior Drummer 3 to look for any new presets you've added.
From now on, you can quickly access your saved preset by clicking on the "Drums and Mixer Presets" menu and looking in the "User Presets" section. Your saved preset will be there, ready to use with just one click!
Create a system for naming your presets to stay organized. For example, include the genre, mood, or project name in the preset title (like "Pop-Bright-ProjectX"). This will help you quickly find the right drum sound when you have many presets.

An SD3P file is a preset file format used by Superior Drummer 3. These files contain all the settings for a complete drum kit, including which drum samples are used, how they're mixed, what effects are applied, and more. Think of it as a "snapshot" of a perfectly set-up drum kit that you can instantly load.
SD3P files can come from several sources:
Yes! Loading an SD3P preset is just a starting point. After loading it, you can adjust any part of the drum kit to your liking. You can change the drum sounds, adjust the mix, add or remove effects, and make any other changes you want. When you're happy with your modifications, you can save it as a new preset for future use.
