Custom guitar tone preset

A playable guitar or bass tone, made for your gear and your target sound.

Send me your modeler, plug-in, IR slot or NAM profile target plus a few references and a DI. I dial a custom preset that reacts naturally to your playing and sits in a real mix — not just one that sounds impressive in isolation.

Pick the deliverable

Full modeler / plug-in preset, or just a cabinet capture.

Two tracks for two situations. One delivers a full preset — every stage of the chain dialled for your specific unit, plug-in, or NAM host. The other narrows in on the cabinet side as a custom WAV IR you load into any IR-capable host. Pick what your rig actually needs.

Engineered cabinet capture

Custom WAV IR

Rush service is approx. 2 weeks from full brief, DI, and references received. Standard delivery is approx. 2 months.

Pick your platform

Built natively for the unit you actually play.

Tap your modeler, plug-in, or profile format to preset the configurator. Each preset is dialled and tested on the exact gear it targets, with multi-source monitoring and translation references in the studio.

Hardware modelers & profilers

Stand-alone units — load the preset and play.

Amp sim plug-ins

Software amp sims that run inside your DAW (Neural DSP, STL Tones, Bogren Digital, ML Sound Lab, Plugin Alliance and others).

Custom profiles & impulse responses

Open, vendor-neutral formats — load WAV IRs in any IR-capable modeler or plug-in, and NAM profiles in NAM-capable hardware (Quad Cortex and others) or the free Neural Amp Modeler plug-in.

What's in the preset

A balanced, playable tone — every piece chosen on purpose.

Not a factory preset. Not a generic export. The preset is dialled to your gear, your guitar, your tuning, and the songs you actually play — checked against multi-source monitoring before delivery.

Amp model picked for the part

Fender clean, Marshall-style mids, Mesa-style high-gain, Friedman BE, Engl, Soldano, modern djent — whatever the reference actually wants. No generic factory preset.

Gain that fits the part

Enough sustain and aggression for the genre, without turning every riff into noise. Tightness checked against palm mutes, not just open chords.

Noise gate tuned to your playing

Threshold, attack, release and hold dialled so the gate is part of the feel — not a brick wall that cuts off note tails or chokes fast picking.

EQ that sits in a mix

Pre and post EQ shaped so the guitar cuts through without harsh fizz or blanket-like darkness. Mids that actually live with vocals.

Cab/IR matched to the tone

Speaker model or impulse response is part of the design — not an afterthought. Selected and tuned so it carries the part in a mix, not just to flatter the amp in isolation.

Custom WAV IR or NAM profile

If your rig already nails the amp side, order a Custom WAV IR — a cabinet/mic impulse response you drop into any IR-capable host (modeler, plug-in, or DAW IR loader). If you want a fresh amp tone for a NAM-capable host (Quad Cortex, Neural Amp Modeler plug-in, etc.), order a Custom NAM profile instead — it acts as the amp model itself, and can be amp-only or amp+cab depending on what you ask for.

Practical output level

Global output set sensibly so the preset can be used in a session, live rig, or DAW chain without surprise level jumps.

Built against references

Reference songs and artists you point at — plus your DI — drive the tone. Translated across monitors, headphones, and a phone before delivery.

Delivered native

Whatever format your platform uses: .syx, .preset, .kemper, .nam, plug-in preset file or WAV IR. A short loading note tells you exactly where it goes.

Workflow

From your reference and DI to a finished, playable preset.

No factory bank. You send the targets and your DI, I dial the tone, you receive a single preset file ready for your unit, plug-in, or IR slot.

  1. Choose your platform

Pick the exact modeler, profiler, plug-in, IR slot, or NAM host you target — and choose the deliverable: a full preset (complete chain), a Custom WAV IR (cab side only), or a Custom NAM profile (amp or amp+cab for any NAM host).

  2. Send references and notes

Describe the target sound: artists, songs, sections you love. Include tuning, guitar, pickups, genre, and whether the preset is for rhythm, lead, clean, bass, or all of them.

  3. Send a DI if possible

A clean DI of your real playing helps the preset react to your fingers, not a generic test riff. WAV at 48 kHz / 24-bit or higher works perfectly.

  4. Receive your custom preset

I dial and check the tone against real monitoring, headphones, and mix translation references. Delivered as a single file with a short loading note for your unit or plug-in.

Studio context

Dialled on real hardware and against practical monitoring references.

Presets are built inside the same units, plug-ins, and capture formats your tone will live in. No abstract patches — only sounds that survive a real mix and a real live rig.

Ask before you order

I reply within one business day. DI files, references, and any unreleased material stay confidential.

How does it actually work?

You pick your platform (modeler, plug-in, IR slot, or NAM profile target) and turnaround at checkout. After purchase you get a private upload link and a short brief form: target sound, references, guitar/tuning details, and ideally a clean DI of your real playing. I dial a custom preset, check it against monitoring and translation references, and send back a single preset file with a short loading note.

Which platforms are supported?

Hardware modelers and profilers: Fractal Axe-Fx III MKII, Fractal FM3/FM9, Fractal Axe-Fx II XL+, Neural DSP Quad Cortex, Fender Tone Master Pro, Line 6 Helix, Line 6 POD Go, HeadRush MX5 (Pedalboard & Gigboard compatible), Boss GT-1000CORE (GT-1000 compatible), IK Multimedia ToneX Pedal, Kemper Profiler (all models including Player), HoTone Ampero, NUX MG-30, Valeton GP-5. Plus: any guitar amp sim plug-in inside your DAW, Custom WAV IR, and Custom NAM profile.

What's the difference between a full preset and a Custom WAV IR / NAM profile?

A full preset is the complete chain — amp model, gain staging, EQ, noise gate, cabinet, IR, and any post-processing — saved as a single preset (or scene) for your specific unit or plug-in. Load it, play it.

A Custom NAM Profile is a neural capture of an amplifier (and optionally the speaker/cab signal path together). You load it into NAM-capable hardware (Quad Cortex and others) or the free Neural Amp Modeler plug-in — it acts as the amp model itself. Depending on what you ask for, the profile can be amp-only (add your own cab/IR after it) or full amp+cab (use it as a complete tone).

A Custom WAV IR is a cabinet/mic impulse response — it sits at the cab stage of the chain only. You still need an amp model upstream (in your unit or in a plug-in) for the WAV IR to colour.

Pick the full preset when your unit is doing the whole chain. Pick a NAM profile when you want a bespoke amp tone (or amp+cab combo) dropped into any NAM host. Pick a WAV IR when your amp tone is already where you want it and only the cab side needs custom work.

Do I have to send a DI?

Strongly recommended, not strictly required. A clean DI of your real playing (WAV, 48 kHz / 24-bit or higher) is the single biggest factor in getting a preset that reacts to your fingers — pickups, attack, palm-mute weight, and bend behaviour all come through. Without a DI I dial against generic riffs and references, which works but won't be as tailored to your touch.

What genres and styles do you cover?

Rock, metal (classic to modern), djent, progressive, hardcore, post-rock and atmospheric, pop-punk, blues, country, indie, ambient, fusion, and clean rhythm/lead work for pop and singer-songwriter productions. Bass tones are supported too — 4, 5, 6-string, Dingwall, Evertune. If you want a specific reference artist or song, point at it directly in the brief.

Does my guitar (or pickups, tuning) matter?

Yes — significantly. 7-string, 8-string, baritone, Evertune, Fishman Fluence, classic humbuckers, single coils, P90s, Telecaster bridge, Strat bridge, and similar all need different EQ and gain staging to sit well. Tuning matters too: drop A is not drop D. Tell me in the brief what guitar, pickup set, and tuning the preset is for.

How do I load the preset on my unit?

Every delivery includes a short loading note tailored to your platform — which folder, which import tool (Fractal-Bot, Axe-Edit, HX Edit, Cortex Control, Rig Manager, ToneX, native plug-in preset browser, WAV IR loader, NAM Player, etc.), and any global settings you should check. If something isn't loading, I'll help over email.

How long does it take?

Standard delivery is approximately 2 months from a full brief, DI, and references received. Rush service is approximately 2 weeks. Exact ETA is confirmed once the scope is agreed.

How many revisions are included?

We refine until you're 100% happy. Notes should be itemised in a single message — what should be tighter, brighter, darker, more open, more aggressive, etc. There's no extra charge — we keep refining until you're happy.

How is the preset delivered?

Private download link with the preset file in its native format for your platform (.syx for Fractal, plug-in preset for amp sims, .kemper for Kemper, .nam for NAM, .wav for IRs, and so on), plus a short PDF or text note with loading instructions and any recommended global settings.
