How to Import Your Files
Follow this comprehensive guide to easily load your new presets and impulse responses (IRs) into your Fractal Audio unit using the official editor software.

1. Importing Presets (.syx
files)
- 1Connect your Axe-Fx III to your computer via USB and open Axe-Edit III.
- 2Navigate to Tools โ Manage Presets in the menu bar.
- 3Drag and drop your
.syx
preset file(s) into the desired preset slots in the manager window. - 4Click Save to write the presets to your Axe-Fx III unit.
- 1Connect your FM9 to your computer via USB and launch FM9-Edit.
- 2Go to Tools โ Manage Presets in the application menu.
- 3Drag and drop your
.syx
preset file(s) into the available preset slots. - 4Press Save to store the presets on your FM9 device.
- 1Connect your FM3 to your computer via USB and open FM3-Edit.
- 2Navigate to Tools โ Manage Presets from the menu.
- 3Drag your
.syx
preset files into the preset manager window. - 4Click Save to finalize and write the presets to your FM3.
2. Importing Impulse Responses (.wav
/ .syx
)
This section covers importing cabinet impulse response files. Note: Many Axe-Fx III presets use TMA blocks and may not require separate IR imports.
- 1In Axe-Edit III, navigate to Tools โ Manage Cabs to open the Cabinet Management window.
- 2Locate the folder containing your
.wav
IR files. Select all files and drag them into the left "Browser" panel. Click "OK" when prompted to convert WAV files to SYX format. - 3Once conversion is complete, select all IRs in the Browser list and drag them into their corresponding user cabinet slots. Important: Ensure filenames match slot numbers exactly.
- 4Press Save to write the impulse responses to your Axe-Fx III's internal memory.
- 1In FM9-Edit, go to Tools โ Manage Cabs to open the Cabinet Management interface.
- 2Select your
.wav
IR files and drag them into the Browser panel. Click "OK" to convert files to SYX format. - 3Select all converted IRs in the Browser and drag them into matching user cabinet slots. Keep filenames aligned with their target slot numbers.
- 4Click Save to store the impulse responses on your FM9 device.
- 1In FM3-Edit, navigate to Tools โ Manage Cabs to access Cabinet Management.
- 2Drag your
.wav
IR files into the Browser section and click "OK" to convert to SYX format. - 3After conversion, drag all IRs from the Browser into the appropriate user cabinet slots. Filenames must match destination slot numbers.
- 4Press Save to finalize and write the IRs to your FM3's memory.

- Firmware & Software: Always keep your device firmware and editor software updated to the latest versions for best compatibility.
- File Preparation: Extract any .zip archives before importing. Ensure all files are in the correct format (.syx for presets, .wav or .syx for IRs).
